Differences Between Viagra, Cialis and Levitra
There are three prescription drugs on the market today for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. The first erectile dysfunction drug was Viagra, which was introduced by Pfizer in 1998. It was followed in 2003 by Cialis (Eli Lily, Bayer) and Levitra (Glaxco SmithKline, Bayer). The three drugs have more similarities than difference. In this article I will first tell you what these three drugs that treat erectile dysfunction have in common and then I will tell you what the major differences are.
Commonalities of Viagra, Levitra and Cialis in the Treatment of Erectile Dysfunction
All three of these drugs that treat erectile dysfunction work in the same manner. Cialis, Viagra and Levitra are all PDE-F Inhibitors that work by helping to relax compromised hardened penile arteries, allowing more blood flow to the penis which then causes an erection. All three drugs have around a 70% efficacy or success rate. Since all three erectile dysfunction drugs work in the same manner those who have been unsuccessful with one drug will most likely not secure success with either of the others. Also, the safety warnings are similar as none of the three erectile dysfunction drugs are recommended for those taking certain heart medications or those who have had a heart attack.
Side Effects of the Erectile Dysfunction Drugs: Viagra, Cialis and Levitra
The most common side effects are similar for all three and include: headache, upset stomach, heartburn, flushing, nasal congestion, and changes in vision (though the blue discoloration experienced by some has only been associated with Viagra). Back pain has also been noted as an occasional side effect by those using Cialis for erectile dysfunction.
Differences Between Viagra, Levitra and Cialis
The major difference in these three drugs is in the length of time the drug is effective and in how expeditiously the drug takes effect. The effects of both Levitra and Viagra can last for up to four hours. The effects of Cialis have been known to last for as long as 36 hours, which is why Cialis is often referred to in the world of erectile dysfunction as the “weekend pill”. Both Levitra and Viagra are said to begin working in about 30 minutes. Though there are some accounts that say that Levitra can begin to work quicker than Viagra and also that Levitra will work regardless of the foods eaten. I have not found back up documentation to say whether that is in fact, true. Cialis is said to inaugurate working within 15 to 30 minutes.
Like all medical treatments prescription drugs for the treatment of erectile dysfunction should only be taken under the careful supervision of a physician. I am in not any way recommending one drug over the other two. Just simply here to pass some information along to those who are attractive.
